Business donates left over bread to help feed the hungry - ABC 36 News - WTVQ

VERSAILLES, Ky. (WTVQ) – You never know who you might meet and what type of influence they’ll have on you.

Recently, a local Jimmy John’s employee met a couple of customers who gave her an idea to help her community.

Rachel Robinson is a manager at Jimmy John’s in Versailles.

“We actually had a homeless couple come in here last week and it like clicked like we have this need in Versailles,” said Rachel Robinson.

The store always has extra bread so it doesn’t run out.

Robinson says if the left over bread doesn’t get sold, it gets tossed.

“It just hurt so bad to put it in the trash when somebody could be using it,” said Robinson.

Robinson asked her boss if they could start donating the bread.

“We were all on board with it and it’s something we plan on doing not only this time of year but throughout the year,” said Mo Smither, Managing Owner.

Robinson put a message out on Facebook asking people where to donate. Within hours, people were responding and supporting her idea.

Robinson says her store will be donating bread regularly to the warming center and Sparks Community Cafe in Versailles. She adds they’ll be donating as long as they’re making bread.
